About me

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

I recently participated in The Relay, which was held on May 5 and 6, 2012. The Relay is a 194 mile, 12 member team run from Calistoga in Napa Valley to the beach in Davenport (near Santa Cruz). This is the first time I ran this relay with India Literacy Project. India Literacy Project had 11 teams participate, which is a total of 154 individuals and we have a fund raising target of USD 200,000.

Why am I doing this?

I volunteer for India Literacy Project (ILP), an organization that promotes the literacy campaign in India. Teams of 12 members from ILP are committed to raising at least $6,600 each to support ILP's projects in India. As some of you might know, the literacy rate in India is less than 60% today and ILP's mission is to be "A catalyst for 100% literacy in India". I believe in ILP's mission, and I want to give something back to my country and community. Projects supported by ILP are in the areas of educating kids forced into child labor, providing vocational training to unskilled youth and building functional skills for illiterate adults. Over the last thirteen years, ILP has distributed over $1,000,000 US dollars, promoting literacy projects in India and reaching out to over 10000 women & children.

Another organization that I believe in and supports The Relay is Organs 'R' Us (ORU). ORU promotes the need organ donors in US through walking and running, transplant recipients, candidates, organ donors, donor family members and others have generated $25 million of publicity promoting organ donation. Although started in the San Francisco Bay Area, ORU has grown throughout the US. Through participation in athletic events selected for maximum publicity and fun, this group showcases their fitness proving that organ transplantation saves lives.

How can you help?

Please join me in helping ORU and ILP attain their goals. I will not succeed without your support and good wishes. Education is at the heart of empowerment of millions of men, women and children. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to funding literacy projects in India.

Pledge your support for 96,000 Americans (including 2,500 children) waiting for organs. 18 die each day before a donor is found. Since communicating a desire to donate will allow grieving relatives to make an informed decision, ORU encourages family discussions, not about death, but about offering a life saving gift.

Since ILP and ORU are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, all donations are 100% tax deductible.

Please support my endeavor to help spread literacy in India and promote the need for organ donors in US
