$1000Ekal Vidyalaya's philosophy is to take a holistic approach to social and economic development of rural and remote tribal villages in India by providing functional education that includes basic literacy, health and hygiene, economic development, social empowerment and value education. Ekal Vidyalaya runs single teacher schools, teaching 25-35 children, between 6-14 years of age at a cost of just $1 a day- $365 for the entire year! This single teacher school is governed by local communities who understand and act on local issues and needs effectively.
